Jim joined Venture Investors in 2007 as a Managing Director of Venture Investors LLC, and heads up the firm’s Ann Arbor, Michigan office. He focuses on the firm’s Information Technology practice, works with the Venture Investors Health Care Managing Directors on medical device investments, and is the primary contact for all deals in Michigan for the firm.

Prior to Venture Investors, Jim formed RidgeLine Ventures, where he helped co-found university spin-outs and advised early stage companies, including Tissue Regeneration Systems and RhinoLight (Allux Medical). Prior to RidgeLine, Jim was a Partner at EDF Ventures. During his tenure at EDF, he led the spin-out, sourcing, financing, syndication and exit of many EDF portfolio companies. Jim served on the Board of Directors of Avail Networks and HandyLab and was responsible for additional portfolio companies, serving as a board observer for Alfalight, Ardesta, TherOx, and Xtera Communications.

Jim has over nine years experience in various operating and strategic roles. His technical experience includes six years of design and development engineering, product development, project management, testing and manufacturing for leading U.S. corporations. He spent two years in international sales, marketing and business development, where he had P & L responsibility for product launches in Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. He also co-led the successful $50MM acquisition and integration of a competitor in Argentina.

Jim currently serves on the boards of the Ann Arbor IT Zone and the Frankel Commercialization Fund, a pre-seed investment fund at the University of Michigan. He has worked for the National Science Foundation as a panelist for SBIR grants. Jim is a frequent lecturer for the University of Michigan Engineering and Business Schools, and serves as a judge for the school's business plan competitions.

Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and a Master of Business Administration with High Distinction – all from the University of Michigan.
